Discover Our Supportive Housing Model
At HSI, our permanent supportive housing programs are founded on a centralized approach, where we handle all aspects of tenant support. From social services and front desk security to facility maintenance and administration, every department shares the same mission: to keep our tenants housed and empower them to live independently.
The Holistic Effect
Our commitment to this holistic model has yielded remarkable results. 95% of the individuals and families who enter an HSI permanent supportive housing program find stable housing and do not return to the shelter system or require a higher level of care.
How It Works
We employ a progressive housing first and harm reduction approach that is deeply person-centered and outcome-oriented. Our primary goal is to empower homeless individuals to overcome the complex barriers to health and housing stability. Here's how we do it:
The National Alliance to End Homelessness explains Housing First. The alliance is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in the United States. Learn about their important work and advocacy at https://endhomelessness.org/

Safe, Clean, Permanent Homes Without Conditions
We believe in providing safe and stable homes as the starting point for every tenant's journey. No prerequisites such as attaining sobriety, completing rehabilitation programs, or receiving mental health treatment are required before moving into HSI housing.
Wide-Ranging On-Site Services
Our comprehensive on-site services are both elective and meticulously customized to confront the underlying factors of homelessness. We diligently address issues such as poor health, untreated mental illness, chemical dependency, and the lack of educational and vocational opportunities, all within a framework committed to eliminating disparities and fostering inclusivity. HSI's programming is thoughtfully tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual, recognizing their diverse backgrounds and experiences, as we work to create a more equitable and inclusive path to support.
Promoting Community
Community participation holds a profound impact, and at HSI, we're dedicated to reconnecting residents with social networks. Our creative arts and educational programming, known as RISE, was introduced in 2007 with the opening of Kenmore Hall's learning center and is now at all our sites. It supports lifelong learning through classes and activities like computer literacy, job search assistance, theater workshops, writing classes, visual art courses, and much more.
At HSI, we don't just offer housing; we provide a comprehensive support system that empowers individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity, compassion, and a strong sense of community. Join us in this transformative journey toward stability and independence.
